August 2017 – Planting Day

On Sunday 20th August we started planting ex-City Farm Paddock 4, one of the higher elevation areas of the island (still very low!). The day was well attended with over 40 volunteers and with so many hands the work was done in a flurry – 360 trees and shrubs planted and tree guards installed, some weeding done and leaving ample time for a discussion and contemplation of the Kooragang volunteer planting group’s achievements and the future of work for the group either at Ash Island or further afield up the lower Hunter Valley. Thanks to the chefs as well as all who attended and stay tuned as we continue to explore our options with LLS, private landholders, National Parks, and other conservation groups working around the Hunter River estuary and wetlands.
